Sorry to hear about your root rot issues!
I think your bulb will be alright as long as it's still green. Just plant your bulb in a pot with great drainage holes and porous soil. Also make sure that one quarter inch of the top of the bulb is above ground.
Of course, be extremely cautious while watering. In fact, I would try to get away with not watering at all during the summer months due to dormancy. After the summer just wait for the soil to be completely dry before watering again.
If, after the summer, it has trouble rooting, you could try a little rooting hormone to get it going. I hope this helps!
