There are a bunch of reasons why a succulent may not show their brightest colors. Here are two of the most common.
1) Your plant is not receiving enough sunlight. As a general rule, succulents show their brightest colors in full and direct sunlight.
2) Your plant is getting a hair too much water. If you don't see any structural signs of over watering (mushy leaves, mold, discoloration), then it may just need to be watered a little less, instead of completely cut off for extended periods of time.
"Stressing" a succulent is a good way to bring out its brightest colors. Stress isn't a bad thing for plants, like it can be for people, so you don't have to worry about it causing long term damage to your plant. To stress your plant, just give it more sun, and less water. I hope this helps.
